The Artist Behind the Wet Nose

My Mission

The Art of a Lifetime Legacy

I’m David Holzemer, and am a digital artist dedicated to capturing the soul of our most loyal companions.

Every dog owner understands that the bond we share is more than just affection, it’s a lifetime of shared moments, a language spoken through playful nips, soulful gazes, and the warm, unbridled weight of a furry blockhead on your lap.

At Wet Nose Creative, my mission is to transform those fleeting, treasured moments into a permanent, tangible legacy. I specialize in creating custom digital pet portraits that do more than just replicate a photo; they capture the unique, vibrant personality and spirit of your beloved dog.

My work is deeply personal to me because I know exactly what it is like to lose a dog. Having lost three of my own Labs over the years, most recently my sweet 16 year old lady, Gracie. I understand the empty space they leave behind. Seeing their portraits on my walls every day brings me an incredible sense of peace and joy; it keeps their spirit present in my home. It is that same comfort and connection I strive to bring into yours.

When you commission a portrait from me, you receive a visual expression of love that declares, “I remember…”

The Process:
I treat every piece as a personal reflection of your journey together. Starting from your favorite reference photos, I meticulously hand-render a digital painting. Every brushstroke, every vibrant hue, and every etched detail is designed to make your dog’s spirit shine through. I use no AI filters or automated shortcuts. Only digital paint and a deep respect for the subject.

The Result:
A one-of-a-kind masterpiece printed using archival-quality canvas and inks. A soul-stirring portrait that serves as a constant reminder of the joy, loyalty, and unconditional love you share.

More Than Just a Dog

The name “Wet Nose Creative” is a tribute to the unconditional love and deep connection that inspires my work. I believe that because they are more than just a dog, their memory and spirit deserve to be preserved in a gallery-quality piece of art.

I am proudly based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and honored to serve clients worldwide. I also believe in giving back to the K9 community and proudly support organizations like Lake Erie Labrador Retriever Rescue, Blue Line K9 Project, Georgia Police K9 Foundation, and K9 Heros for Heros.

Commitment to My Craft

My goal is to be the best mixed-media painter in the field of canine art. To achieve that, I am committed to continuous learning and technical mastery. Since 2021, I have been a dedicated student at Beyond the Brushes Studio, studying under Michelle Parsley, Style Originator, Oil Painter, Master Artist, Master Photographer, and Certified Professional Photographer.

Learning the techniques from the originator of this style ensures that I am always pushing the boundaries of what is possible in digital portraiture. It is deeply important to me that I provide the highest level of craftsmanship for every client—because our dogs deserve nothing less than our absolute best.

Whether you’re celebrating a new puppy, immortalizing a loyal companion, or creating a tribute to a friend who has crossed the Rainbow Bridge, I look forward to bringing your dog’s story to life.

In Memoriam: Our Maggie da'Moo, Dozer & Gracie

How are Wet Nose Creative portraits created?

Each portrait is hand-rendered by David Holzemer using digital painting techniques. Unlike "AI art" or automated filters, David uses a digital stylus to paint every hair and highlight, starting from a high-resolution reference photo of your dog to ensure their true personality shines through.

What inspired David to start painting dog portraits?

The inspiration for Wet Nose Creative came from David’s own "heart dog," a chocolate Lab named Dozer, and his 16-year-old Lab, Gracie. After experiencing the profound loss of his own companions, David realized the healing power and comfort that a beautiful portrait can provide to a grieving dog owner.

Are these portraits available outside of Pittsburgh?

Yes! While David is a digital artist based in Pittsburgh, PA, Wet Nose Creative serves dog lovers across the United States and worldwide. Because the process starts with a digital photo, you can commission a piece from anywhere.

What makes a "mixed-media" digital painting different from a photo?

A photo captures a moment, but a mixed-media digital painting captures a spirit. By using professional painting techniques learned at Beyond the Brushes Studio, David adds depth, texture, and emotion that a standard photograph simply cannot replicate.
